During the summer of 2004, a new era started for Inter: Roberto Mancini, former Lazio trainer, became the new coach. His official debut came in August, when the side had to face FC Basel in Champions League third preliminary round: Inter won on a 5–2 aggregate. In the first part of season, Inter was unbeaten for a long time: however a lot of draws came, even 13 in 19 league matches.
