Malaria vaccine

The only malaria vaccine approved for use outside trials as of 2015 is RTS,S. It requires four injections, and has a relatively low efficacy (26%-50%) compared to other vaccines. Research continues into recombinant protein and attenuated whole organism vaccines, in the hopes of producing a vaccine which is more effective. In the meantime, resistance to post-infection treatments is increasing, creating a pressing need for a vaccine, which would also be an extremely helpful tool for malaria eradication efforts.
