It is the twenty-first of a series of books collecting essays from The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. It was first published by Doubleday & Company in May 1990. The title may be found in George Macdonald's poem "Baby" which begins with the lines: "Where did you come from, baby dear?""Out of the everywhere into here."
