Originally given the provisional designation "1997 NA1", it was renamed "Leonhardt" after Gustav Leonhardt, the eminent Dutch harpsichordist, conductor and pedagogue.Also the asteroid (12637) Gustavleonhardt was named after Gustav Leonhardt.
