Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze

The Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze ("academy of fine arts of Florence") is an instructional art academy in Florence, in Tuscany, in central Italy. It is the oldest and one of the most prestigious art schools in the world. Founded as a guild during the Renaissance in 1563, in its long history the academy has been associated with Michelangelo Buonarroti, Benvenuto Cellini and other major figures of Florentine history. The adjacent (but unaffiliated) Galleria dell'Accademia houses the original David by Michelangelo.
