Advance Stakes

The Advance Stakes was an American Thoroughbred horse race run annually from 1899 through 1910 at the Sheepshead Bay Race Track in Brooklyn, New York. Open to horses age three and older, it was raced on dirt. During its tenure, the event was contested at four different distances: * 1899-1900 :  1 3⁄4 miles * 1901-1902 :  1 1⁄2 miles * 1903-1907 :  1 3⁄8 miles * 1908-1910 :  1 5⁄16 miles The race ended with the closure of the Coney Island Jockey Club's racetrack, brought on by the State legislature's enactment of the Hart-Agnew Law.
