It was the first leg of a second round tie in the 1966–67 European Cup. The match was given the Dutch title "De Mistwedstrijd" (Dutch pronunciation: [də mɪst ˈʋɛt.strɛi̯t]; "The Fog Match") as it was played in dense fog.
