Akersloot

Akersloot is a town in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Castricum, and lies about 9 km south of Alkmaar. Until 1 January 2002, Akersloot was a separate municipality. In 2001, the town of Akersloot had 4347 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.81 km², and contained 1657 residences. The wider statistical area of Akersloot has a population of around 5080. This includes the hamlets Starting and Klein Dorregeest south of Akersloot, and Boekel to the north. The oldest name for Akersloot was Axmericota, meaning "Oak Forest at the Sea".
