Assyrian independence movement

The Assyrian independence movement is a movement guided by the Assyrian people for independence in their historical homeland of northern Iraq, northeastern Syria, southeastern Turkey, and northwestern Iran. The efforts are specifically in the regions where larger concentrations still exist, and not the Assyrian region in its entirety. Those regions with large concentrations being: Alqosh, Erbil, and the Dohuk Governorate in Iraq, and the Al-Hasakah Governorate in Syria. The City of Mosul and the Nineveh Governorate had a sizable Assyrian presence prior to the takeover and forced expulsion of the Assyrian population by the Islamic State in 2014.
