Brazilian Ambassador to the United States
The following is a list of Ambassadors of Brazil, or other chiefs of mission, to the United States. The title given by the Ministry of External Relations to this position is currently "Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary" (Portuguese: Embaixador Extraordinário e Plenipotenciário). The United States was the first country to recognize Brazil's independence and the nation's first legation was thus established in Washington. It was founded January 1, 1824, when José Silvestre Rebello presented his credentials to President James Monroe. In 1905 the legation was raised to a full embassy.
