It was also one of the last major albums Brown and pianist Richie Powell recorded before their deaths later that year, followed only by Sonny Rollins Plus 4. The album was identified by Scott Yanow in his Allmusic essay "Hard Bop" as one of the 17 Essential Hard Bop Recordings.
