Contingent work or casual work is a type of employment relationship between an employer and employee. While there is no consensus on a precise definition, it involves at least one of the following characteristics:
* Temporary or without job security
* Part time (typically with variable hours)
* Paid on a piece work basis If a job is full time, permanent, and pays a regular salary or a fixed wage for regular hours, it is usually not considered to be contingent work.
