Dannenhauer & Stauss is a German coachbuilding company, fundet by Gottfried Dannenhauer who was employed at Karosseriewerk Reutter in Stuttgart. Within this job he got connections to Volkswagen before World War II. From 1950 to 1957 Reutter manufactured about 100 convertibles, most of them based on the Volkswagen Beetle. The sales price was 8,892 DEM. The body was handmade by tapping metal sheets on template. The doors came from a pressing shop. Other companies like DKW were supplied. As in 1955 the Karmann Ghia appeared in mass production, the company was not longer a competitor in the market. Changing the business modell to rebuilding vehicle bodies made the company survive at the address in Augustenstraße, Stuttgart where Reutter disappeared.
