It was the busiest airport in Scotland in 2015, handling 11.1 million passengers in that year, an increase of 9.4% compared with 2014. It was also the sixth busiest airport in the UK by total passengers in 2015. It is located 5 nautical miles (9.3 km; 5.8 mi) west of the city centre and is situated just off the M8 and M9 motorways. It is owned and operated by Global Infrastructure Partners, which also owns and operates Gatwick Airport and London City Airport. The airport features two runways and one passenger terminal, and employs about 2,500 people.
