The term Experimental multimedia is used to describe the implementation of original interactive multimedia systems which encapsulate innovative technologies and/or content. This implies that the originality of the work is traced both at content and system levels. Typical systems include pioneering interactive artwork, research-based interactive multimedia systems, and the end-systems of doctoral and postdoctoral research in the field of interactive multimedia and new media arts.
