George Caswall

Sir George Caswall was a British Member of Parliament who represented the Herefordshire seat of Leominster from 1717 to 1721, and from 1722 to 1741. George Caswall was one of seven members expelled from the House of Commons in 1721. Caswell's punishment was the result of his involvement (through the firm of Turner, Caswall & Co and the Hollow Sword Blade Company) in the South Sea Company scandal; his specific offence being the acquisition – free of charge – of £50,000 of stock in the company while its formation was before parliament. In addition Turner, Caswall & Co was ordered to make a restitution of £250,000.
