Illegal immigration to Russia

Illegal immigration has been going on in the Russian federation since the Great Depression. Back then illegal immigrants came from Finland and Germany, nowadays they mostly come from Ukraine. There are currently an estimated 4 million illegal immigrants from the ex-Soviet states in Russia (the "Near Abroad"). The problem has become so severe it has caused a rise in Russian nationalism, and spawned groups like Movement Against Illegal Immigration, was banned by the Moscow City Court in 2011 on the grounds that it "ignites inter-ethnic hatred".
