Khabour Guards

The Khabour Guards (Syriac: ܢܛܘܪܐ ܕܚܒܘܪ‎, translit. Naṭore d'Khabour) was an Assyrian Syrian militia created after the collapse of Syrian government control in the Assyrian dominated Khabour valley northeast of Hasaka. The militia was composed of hundreds of local Assyrians and had manned checkpoints in several villages, most notably Tel Tamer. The Khabour Guards were initially overrun by ISIS during the jihadist's assault on 23 February 2015. Together with the MFS and YPG they managed to slow the advance of ISIS.
