King of the Cocos Islands
King of the Cocos Islands was the title of 5 generations of men of the Clunies-Ross family from 1827 until 1978, who settled the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. The title was initially given by the press in 1903 but later self-proclaimed. John Clunies-Ross was the first, a sea captain from Scotland who had established a settlement on the islands in 1827.
