The Lynchburg Metropolitan Statistical Area, also widely known within the state as Region 2000, is a United States Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) in Virginia, as defined by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) as of June, 2003. As of the 2000 census, the MSA had a population of 228,616 (though a July 1, 2009 estimate placed the population at 247,447). As of 2015, the Lynchburg MSA was the sixth largest in the state with a population of 259,950.
