The song was written by Furtado, Tim "Timbaland" Mosley, Nate "Danja" Hills, and Jim Beanz, and released to mainstream radio in the United States in September 2006. The song's musical style and production were inspired by pop arrangements from the 1980s by bands such as Eurythmics and Hall & Oates. Furtado stated that Hall & Oates' song of the same name was an influence during the writing and recording of the song.
