Polish–Lithuanian royal election, 1669
On September 16, 1668; King John II Casimir abdicated the Polish–Lithuanian throne and left for France, where he joined the Jesuits and became abbot of Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in Paris. As a result of his decision to abdicate, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was once again left without a monarch. Leading to a free election.
