Princess Rooney Handicap

The Princess Rooney Handicap is an American Grade II Thoroughbred horse race once run annually during the second week of July at Calder Race Course in Miami Gardens but now run at Gulfstream Park, Florida. The seven furlong sprint on dirt is open to fillies and mares age three-years and older. Named for the U.S. Hall of Fame filly Princess Rooney, it was a Grade I event from 2006 to 2014, but became a grade II event in 2015. Part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series, the winner of the 2009 Princess Rooney Handicap automatically qualifies for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint.
