Santa María Chilapa de Diaz

Santa María Chilapa de Diaz is a town and municipality in Oaxaca in south-western Mexico. It is part of the Teposcolula District in the center of the Mixteca Region.The name Chilapa means "Water from chiles". The municipality covers an area of 234.75 km² at an altitude of 1900 meters above sea level.The climate is mild, averaging about 17°C.Trees include oak, pine and pitch pine. Wild fauna include coyotes, snakes, lizards and scorpions.
