Sovereign People

Sovereign People (Dutch: Onafhankelijk Volk, Papiamento: Pueblo Soberano) is a political party in Curaçao founded in 2005, which became after the Curaçao general election of 2012 the largest party in the Estates of Curaçao. In the Curaçao 2010 elections Pueblo Sobrerano won three seats and became on 10 October 2010 part of the governing coalition of the Cabinet Schotte. Pueblo Soberano was headed by Helmin Wiels (who co-founded the party with Harold Willems) until his murder in May 2013. The party aims for independence of Curaçao; outside the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
