The Tyne–Tees derby is a term which is often applied to football matches between Newcastle United and Middlesbrough. The two towns are separated by just 34 miles, in a region where there are only 3 major professional football clubs. Middlesbrough play their home games at the Riverside Stadium, while Newcastle United play their home games at St. James' Park.
