USS Speed (AM-116) was an Auk-class minesweeper acquired by the United States Navy for the dangerous task of removing mines from minefields laid in the water to prevent ships from passing. Speed was laid down at Cleveland, Ohio, on 17 November 1941 by the American Ship Building Company, launched on 18 April 1942, and commissioned on 15 October 1942 Comdr. Ernest L. Posey in command.
