The University of Montana (often simply referred to as UM) is a public research university in Missoula, Montana, in the United States. Founded in 1893, the university is the second largest of the Montana University System, second to Montana State University, and the flagship campus of the University of Montana System. The main campus is located at the foot of Mount Sentinel, the hill bearing Missoula's most recognizable landmark, a large hillside letter "M."
