Windsor Police Service

The Windsor Police Service is a police force originally established on July 1, 1867, to provide service to the City of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. It succeeded the Royal Canadian Rifle Regiment The current Chief of Police is Al Frederick, appointed December 22, 2011. Chief Frederick was appointed acting chief in 2011 when the Windsor force was boiling over with controversy following the abrupt retirement of Chief Gary Smith amid allegations of brutality and other misconduct by his officers. Frederick became the permanent chief the following year.
