1977 Atlantic hurricane season
The 1977 Atlantic hurricane season featured Hurricane Anita – the latest first named storm on record since tropical cyclones were first named in 1950, when it formed and became a named storm on August 29. It also had the fewest tropical storms since the 1965 season. The season officially began on Wednesday, June 1, 1977 and lasted until Wednesday, November 30, 1977. These dates conventionally delimit the period of each year when most tropical cyclones form in the Atlantic basin. The first tropical depression of the season developed on June 13, 12 days after the start of the season, in the western Caribbean Sea, with three other tropical depressions following suit in July and early August.
