1998 San Francisco 49ers season
The 1998 San Francisco 49ers season was the franchise's 49th season in the National Football League and their 53rd overall. The season saw the return of Jerry Rice, who missed most of 1997 with a major knee injury. After defeating the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round of the playoffs, thanks to a game-winning catch by young Terrell Owens, San Francisco's season ended with a loss to the Atlanta Falcons the following week in the divisional round. The Falcons then defeated the 15–1 Minnesota Vikings in the NFC title game, but lost to the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl.
