2015 Polish Constitutional Court crisis

The Polish Constitutional Court crisis of 2015 is a political conflict in Poland starting in the second semester of 2015 over the appointment of five of the 15 judges of the Constitutional Tribunal. In Poland, constitutional judges must be elected by the Lower House, and must take an oath of office before the President. In 2015, the governing Civic Platform (Platforma Obywatelska, PO) party lost both the Presidency, and the Parliament majority to Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, PiS), making the judicial branch the only institution left to oppose PiS' new power—provided that the due seat replacements were made in advance.
