It is visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 5.42. Based upon an annual parallax shift of 4.7 mas, it is located about 730 light years from the Sun. 55 And is moving closer to the Earth with a heliocentric radial velocity of −7.6 km/s. It is a member of the Sirius supercluster.
