Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is an international mutual aid fellowship, with the stated "primary purpose" of enabling members to be sober and help other alcoholics to do them same through its spiritually inclined Twelve Steps program. It is non-professional, non-denominational, self-supporting, and apolitical, with its sole requirement for membership being an avowed desire to stop drinking. While voluntary donations are accepted, no dues or fees are required from members or member groups. While AA neither originated nor promulgates the disease model of alcoholism, viewing it as an outside issue on which it has no opinion, its members have done much for its popularization.
