Since the nation's debut in 1896, Chilean athletes have appeared in every Summer Olympic Games of the modern era, except for five occasions. Chile did not attend the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles at the period of the worldwide Great Depression and was also part of the US-led boycott, when Moscow hosted the 1980 Summer Olympics.
