David Helfeld (1948-2008) is the longest-serving dean of the University of Puerto Rico School of Law (UPR), he was a Professor Emeritus. He taut law until age 87. He also served as a close advisor to long-time UPR Chancellor and President Jaime Benítez. Helfeld, who does not practice law, serves as an arbitrator and a Special Master appointed by the federal district court in Puerto Rico regarding a mental health class action against the Government of Puerto Rico.
