Field hockey at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Women's tournament
The women's field hockey tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics was the tenth edition of the field hockey event for women at the Summer Olympics. It took place over a fourteen-day period beginning on 6 August, and culminating with the medal finals on 19 August. All games were played at the Olympic Hockey Centre in Deodoro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Great Britain won the gold medal for the first time after defeating defending champions the Netherlands 2–0 on a penalty shoot-out after a 3–3 draw. Germany won the bronze medal by defeating New Zealand 2–1.
