HMS Crested Eagle
HMS Crested Eagle was a paddle steamer sunk in the Dunkirk evacuation. The ship was built by J. Samuel White & Co in 1925, and was taken over by the Admiralty during the Second World War to be used as a minesweeper. On 29 May 1940 it was attacked by the Germans during the British evacuation from Dunkirk. The ship is now still visible at low spring tide on the beach of Zuydcoote. Captain of the ship, Lieutenant Commander Bernard Booth.
