I. G. Brown
I. G. Brown (June 11, 1915 – September 26, 1978) was a senior officer in the United States Air Force who served as the First Director, Air National Guard from August 6, 1969 – April 19, 1974. In 1946, then Lieutenant Colonel Brown, temporarily retired, was elected Sheriff of Garland County, Arkansas on the independent "GI" reform ticket. During his 4-year term, illegal gambling operations were closed down and a number of corrupt officials from the previous political "machine", including the former mayor of 25 years, Leo P. McLaughlin, were arrested and prosecuted. Brown did not seek re-election and returned to active duty in 1951 shortly after leaving office.
