Ioan Barac (1776–July 18, 1848) was an Imperial Austrian ethnic Romanian translator and poet. Born in Alămor, Sibiu County, his father Ioan was a priest. Barac attended the Reformed in Aiud, followed by law studies in Cluj. In 1801, he taught at the Romanian Orthodox school in Avrig. The following year, he became a teacher at the First Romanian School in Șcheii Brașovului, itself attached to St. Nicholas Church. He was a magistrate at the same time, and in 1805 took on the role of Romanian-language interpreter for the Brașov city hall, which he held for the rest of his life.
