Jan Verbree

Jan Verbree (14 August 1940 – 24 February 2021) was a Dutch politician of the Anti-Revolutionary Party and later Christian Democratic Appeal. He was mayor of Grootegast between 1975 and 1989 and mayor of Capelle aan den IJssel between 1989 and 1998. In 1991, Verbree was in the national news. In the time he was mayor of Grootegast he would have made, among others, foreign excursions to New York, together with alderman Molema from Veendam. In the summer of 1992, the Parquet announced that only Molema would be prosecuted as it was unclear whether Verbree knew that these trips were funded by a foundation of which he had been the chairman.
