Kokkola (Finnish: [ˈkokːolɑ]; Swedish: Karleby, Finland Swedish: [ˈkɑrleˌbyː]) is a town and municipality of Finland.The town is located in the Central Ostrobothnia region. The town has a population of 47,927 (31 March 2021) and covers an area of 2,730.80 square kilometres (1,054.37 sq mi) of which 1,286.61 km2 (496.76 sq mi) is water. The population density is 33.19 inhabitants per square kilometre (86.0/sq mi). Neighbour municipalities are Halsua, Kalajoki, Kannus, Kaustinen, Kronoby, Lestijärvi, Larsmo and Toholampi. Kokkola celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2020.
