After the perimeter was breached, Capitol and DC police fought to protect Congress and restore order, while individuals at the Department of Defense waited over three hours to deploy Guard. After assets from the State of Virginia had rolled into the District and Trump had released a video calling for supporters to "go home", the Secretary of Defense approved deployment of the Guard.
