Lingeer

Lingeer (also: Linger or Linguère) was the title given to the mother or sister of a king in the Wolof kingdoms of Cayor, Baol,Walo and the empire and Kingdom of Jolof ; it was also used in the Serer kingdoms of Sine, and Saloum in pre-colonial Senegal. The word "Lingeer" means "queen" or "princess" in Wolof language and was adopted by the Serer who modeled many of their royal and political institutions and titles after Wolof royal and political institutions.
