The Protected areas of Kyrgyzstan cover 1,476,121.6 hectares and account for 7.38% of the country's total area (2017). They include * 10 strict nature reserves (IUCN Category I), * 13 – nature national parks (IUCN Category II), * 19 – natural monuments (IUCN Category III), * 45 – habitat/species management areas, thereof * 23 – botanical reserves, * 8 – forest reserves, * 12 – game (zoological) reserves, * 2 – complex reserves) (IUCN Category IV). Besides, Biosphere Territory with a status of protected area of national significance was established in 2000.
