Oswaldtwistle
Oswaldtwistle (/ˈɒzəl.twɪzəl/ "ozzel twizzel") is a town within the Hyndburn borough of Lancashire, England, lying 3 miles (5 km) east southeast of Blackburn. Oswaldtwistle is contiguous with Accrington and Church. The town has a rich industrial heritage, being home to James Hargreaves, inventor of the spinning jenny and Sir Robert Peel of Calico Printing fame. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal passes through the town and was responsible for the export of much of the areas cotton produce. The 2001 census recorded a population of 12,530, by 2011 this had decreased to 11,803.
