Philip Irwin

Commander Philip Hastings Irwin (1 November 1884 – 12 January 1958) was an English cricketer and Royal Navy officer. Irwin was a right-handed batsman. He was born at Didsbury, Lancashire. Irwin was an acting sub-lieutenant in the Royal Navy in 1905. It was in September of that year that he was given the full rank of sub-lieutenant. In April 1907, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Irwin made his debut for the Royal Navy in first-class cricket against the British Army at Lord's in June 1914, a match in which he scored his maiden half century in his first innings, with a score of 66 opening the batting.
