Philippe Zilcken
Charles Louis Philippe Zilcken (The Hague, April 20, 1857-Villefranche-sur-Mer, October 3, 1930) was a Dutch painter and writer. He studied at the Gymnasium Haganum, and later with Karel Klinkenberg and Anton Mauve. He was later Princess Sophie's « unofficial up-close secretary» . In 1875, he focused on engraving, by studying etching and lithography. He spent some time in France, where he frequented the Société des aquafortistes, and he was later the secretary of its Dutch version, Nederlandsche Etsclub, from 1885 to 1896. He also spent some time in Algeria and Egypt.
