USS Sierra (AD-18)

USS Sierra (AD-18) was a Dixie-class destroyer tender built just before the start of World War II for the U.S. Navy. Her task was to service destroyers in, or near, battle areas and to keep them fit for duty. The second U.S. Navy ship to bear the name, Sierra was laid down on 31 December 1941 by the Tampa Shipbuilding Company of Tampa, Florida, launched on 23 February 1943 and commissioned on 20 March 1944 with Captain P. B. Koonce in command.
