Founded in 1945 following the amalgamation of Walton FC and Hersham FC, they currently play in the Combined Counties League Premier Division South. The club is affiliated to the Surrey County Football Association. Walton & Hersham are the inspiration behind the name of punk band Sham 69, which was derived from a piece of graffiti reading 'Walton & Hersham 69'.
